U2 give approval for use of sample on New Year's Dub

-----------------------------------------------

(Ananova.com) -- U2 have given permission for a sample of one of their songs to be used on a dance track.

A dance version of the 1983 single New Year's Day has been recorded by Musique.

New Year's Dub attracted great interest at the Miami Winter Music Conference.

A spokeswoman for U2 told trade magazine Music Week: "The band thought it was a great song which is why permission to use the sample was given."

Serious Records managing director Simon Belofsky told Dotmusic.com: "Bono has given us permission to release the record in the gap between the third and fourth singles from their current album.

"It will be one of the big records of the year. But it wasn't easy to accomplish and didn't happen until after a lot of persuasion.

"At last Bono finally agreed to let us use the original."
