Bruce hearts U2

(Boston Herald) -- Not only does Boston love Bruce Springsteen and U2, but they also love each other!
Since these two crazy lovebirds are coming to the Hub for sold-out shows - the Boss plays an intimate acoustic gig tomorrow night at the Orpheum and the Irish quartet pulls into the TD Banknorth Garden for three concerts next week - we took a look at their mutual admiration society by excerpting bits of their respective Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction speeches. Bono did the honors for Bruuuuuce in 1999 and Springsteen returned the favor this year. These two must've made out with the Blarney stone.
The Church of Rock 'n' Roll:
Springsteen on U2: ``A great rock band searches for the same kind of combustible force that fueled the expansion of the universe after the big bang. You want the earth to shake and spit fire. You want the sky to split apart and for God to pour out.''
Bono on Bruce: ``Every great rock group is kind of like starting a religion, and Bruce surrounded himself with fellow believers.''

Bruce on U2: ``They're the keepers of the some of the most beautiful sonic architecture in rock 'n'roll.''
Bono on Bruce: ``We call him the Boss. Well, that's a bunch of crap. He's not the boss. He works for us. More than a boss, he's the owner, because more than anyone else, Bruce Springsteen owns America's heart.''

Bruce on drummer Larry Mullen Jr: ``Girls love on Larry Mullen! I have a female assistant that would like to sit on Larry's drum stool. A male one, too.''
Bono on Bruce: ``Then there's Bruce Springsteen. Handsome mother with those brooding brown eyes.''
