Mullen: 'U2 Hall of Fame honour came too early'

Posted on Thursday, March 17 @ 14:29:12 CET by Macphisto
-----------------------------------------------

(IOL.ie) -- U2 star Larry Mullen feels too young to be a member of America's Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame.

A lavish ceremony at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel marked rock 'n' roll's 50th anniversary, and paid tribute to The Pretenders, soul crooner Percy Sledge, The O'Jays and Blues guitarist Buddy Guy alongside the Irish rockers.

But the drummer had hoped the prestigious honour would come in 10 years time.

He says: "It's a big occasion and you just got to be careful that you don't upset people. But, to be absolutely honest, I would really have liked this maybe 10 years down the line.

"It's a great institution, the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame, and I'm just not sure that I'm quite ready to accept institutionalisation."
