(RTE.ie) -- Sales of U2's new album 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' are soaring, according to Irish music retailers.
The album, which has been shipped five times platinum, is reported to be outselling its nearest rival Britney Spears' 'Greatest Hits: My Prerogative' at a rate of five to one.
Music retailers throughout Ireland have claimed that the new U2 album is the fastest selling album of the year.
Stephen Fitzgerald of Golden Discs said: "'How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb' is the fastest selling album of the year in Golden Disc Stores around the country."
"It's great that an Irish album can compete and successfully outsell the top international acts in the world," Fitzgerald said.
A statement from HMV Ireland said: "Sales of the album to date have been immense - the album went straight to our number 1 & will be our best seller throughout Christmas."
