Original author Pimm Jal de la Parra was the editor and publisher of the highly acclaimed U2 fan magazine Collectormania between 1987 and 1996. He spent three years researching to produce the book. De la Parra regrettably died in 2002. The new edition of U2 Live: A Concert Documentary is written by Caroline van Oosten de Boer, who is an editor at Omroep.nl (Dutch public broadcasting), author of the book Gavin Friday - The Light and Dark, and former associate editor of Collectormania magazine.
