(Wire Services) -- Irish megastar Bono, latest heir to the Bob Geldof Irish-rocker-who-wants-to-save-the-world mantle, urged President Bush on Tuesday to set aside more money for AIDS initiatives.
But the U2 front man was disappointed by his sitdown with the president.
"We had a good old row," Bono said after leaving the White House.
Congress is reviewing a $2-billion spending request for next year that would provide the first installment of Bush's five-year, $15-billion plan to combat AIDS.
Bono, who founded an advocacy group for issues affecting Africa, where AIDS is a major crisis, pressed for a U.S. commitment of $3-billion for the year. The White House has asked for $2-billion of the $3-billion available in 2004 under the global HIV-AIDS prevention and treatment act Bush signed in May.
