U2 could release new album in the summer

(Ananova.com) -- The Edge says U2's new album will sound similar to their early material.

He says the band plan to have their next album recorded and ready for release by the middle of next year.

He told Irish magazine Hot Press the band is enjoying itself in the studio, and the new recordings' sound like U2's early days, with "simple, stripped-down arrangements."

The band's sessions have already produced two new songs, Electrical Storm and The Hands That Built America," both of which will appear on U2: Best Of 1990-2000, which is released next month.

Other tracks from the recent U2 sessions include Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, Original Of The Species, and a song called All Because Of You, which Bono describes as: "The Who!"
