U2 walk off with eight more awards

(Irish Independent) -- U2 enjoyed a special sort of homecoming last night when they added eight Meteor awards to the four Grammys they picked up in Los Angeles last week, writes Niamh Hooper.

They collected gongs for Best Irish Rock Band, Best Irish Rock Album for 'All That You Can't Leave Behind', Best Irish Live Performance, Best Irish Video for 'Elevation' and Best Irish Rock Single for 'Walk On'.

Bono won Best Irish Songwriter, Edge was named Best Musician and their manager Paul McGuinness received the Industry Award at the bash in Dublin's Point Theatre.

Collecting the award for 'Walk On' Adam Clayton said the song was "nearly the runt of the litter" on 'All That You Can't Leave Behind'.

He thanked his fellow band members for nurturing it along.

Westlife won Best Irish Pop Act, Best Irish Pop Album for 'World Of Our Own' and Best Irish Pop Single for the cover version of Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl'.

The Best Irish Newcomer prize went to Donegal rockers The Revs.
