U2 Still Amazed by Awards

LOS ANGELES ((Associated Press) -- - For U2, the adulation never gets old.

"This is really amazing," frontman Bono said in a heartfelt, if somewhat rambling, acceptance speech as U2 claimed the Grammy for best rock performance by a duo or group. The award, for "Elevation," was one of four Grammys the veteran Irish rockers won Wednesday.

"It's still an extraordinary thing to behold, the sound of a rock band in full flight," Bono said. "The promise that your friendship will survive commerce, being broke, not being broke, some really lousy haircuts, the '80s, and that maybe 20 years later you may find yourself at an awards ceremony with the same people you started out with and just think, `Wow!' Thank you so much.'"

U2 also won Grammys for record of the year for "Walk On," pop performance by a duo or group with vocal for "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of," and rock album for "All That You Can't Leave Behind."

"It's an extraordinary thing, it's a gift much more than it is a craft in our case," Bono said of the group's success.

"This is a punk rock band hearing mad tunes in their heads that are gospel and folk and psychedelic," he said during the acceptance speech for record of the year. "We depend on God walking through the room more than most."
