Grammy life is 'Beautiful' for U2

(Irish Independent) -- U2 AND The Corrs were nominated for four Grammy Awards between them in Los Angeles yesterday.

Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry feature in the Song of the year and Record of the year categories for their Number One single 'Beautiful Day' and are up against R&B singer Macy Gray, whose soulful ballad, 'I Try', brought her international fame and the Destiny's Child tune, 'Say My Name', in both categories.

'Beautiful Day' is taken from their album 'All That You Can't Leave Behind', which Bono said is the album the band have always wanted to make.

Other contenders for Record of the Year are 'Madonna's Music' and boy band 'N Sync's 'Bye Bye Bye'.

Meanwhile, Dundalk's The Corrs have been nominated for Best Pop Performance by a group or duo for their song 'Breathless' and will battle it out with the Backstreet Boys, 'N Sync and Steeley Dan.

And in the Best Pop Instrumental Performance category the Corrs were nominated for their music to the TV series 'Rebel Heart' and are up against Iceland's Bjork. "It's a great honour and wonderful news. We're keeping our fingers crossed," said Sharon.

Among the other contenders for Grammys are rapper Dr Dre, with five nominations, including Producer of the Year, and Eminem whose profanity-laden songs about rape, murder and homophobia have polarised fans and outraged moral crusaders in the past two years, received four nominations.

The 43rd annual Grammy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 21.
